Attorney Tate Justesen Recognized for Continued Homeless Advocacy

Tate Justesen '08, an attorney with Stahancyk, Kent & Hook, thought of giving to the homeless when he heard of his firm's plan to have each attorney give away 50 brownies on Valentine's Day. Then, he went a step further. He gathered his team on February 14 and went to Blanchet House of Hospitality, a homeless shelter in Portland, to help prepare lunch.

Over the last 57 years, Blanchet House has served over 14 million meals to the hungry. Blanchet House also owns a working farm in Yamhill County where about 30 men work for their room and board. Much of the food generated at the farm is taken to the Blanchet House to be used for meals.

Justesen has long felt homelessness to be one of society's major ills. And as a family law attorney who specializes in divorce and custody matters, he has seen many broken hearts. Volunteering at Blanchet House was an opportunity to help those who have the least in both a physical and emotional way. "Everyone deserves love, especially on valentines' Day," says Justesen.
